Moving Beyond Passive Reading: Making Your Revision Truly Active for Mocks
As mock exams approach, it's a common experience to feel the pressure to 'do' revision. Often, this starts with re-reading textbooks or notes, perhaps highlighting key sections. While this can be a starting point, relying solely on passive reading might not be the most effective way to truly embed information or prepare for exam conditions. Think about how you'll need to recall and apply knowledge under time pressure in your exams. Active revision techniques are designed to simulate this process, making your brain work harder to retrieve information rather than just recognise it. This could involve creating flashcards from memory, attempting past paper questions without looking at notes, summarising topics out loud, or even teaching a concept to a friend or family member. These methods help to solidify your understanding and quickly highlight areas where your knowledge might be a bit shaky, giving you time to address them before the actual exams. Building these habits now can significantly boost your confidence and readiness. What active revision techniques have you tried, and which ones have you found most effective for your subjects, especially as mocks draw closer?
