Making Every GCSE Maths Mock Exam Count

GCSE Maths mock exams are invaluable practice opportunities, but sometimes it feels like we just sit them, get a result, and move on. To truly make them count, it's worth thinking about a strategy for before, during, and after the exam.

Before: How do you prepare? Do you focus on specific topics you find challenging, or try to do a general overview?

During: Are you paying attention to timing? Are you showing all your working clearly, even for questions you're confident about, to secure method marks? Do you check your answers if you have time?

After: This is where the real learning happens! It's not just about the grade you receive. Go through every question, especially the ones you got wrong or lost marks on. Understand why you made a mistake – was it a conceptual error, a calculation slip, or a misreading of the question? Re-do these questions without looking at the mark scheme immediately.
